Important info

Please take our ideas and recommendations with a grain of salt — they may not apply to every family. We are recommending these books and ideas because we think they are valuable, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll find them helpful. At the end of the day, parents are the experts on their own kids and family’s needs. We want you to trust your instincts — take what you find helpful and leave the rest.

All of these books are reviewed and selected by both Betsy and Marin, who are both licensed clinical psychologists. We found each of these books on our own through our professional work or roles as parents. We don’t currently have any partnerships with authors or publishers — and if we were going to start such a partnership, we would let our readers know about it.

We don’t get compensation for recommending books or products, except when you buy them via our bookshop.org affiliate link. This means that we get paid a small percentage of the price of the book, but you don’t pay more. We make every effort to never link to Amazon.

Here’s the part you already know: Our recommendations and ideas aren’t medical advice, and engaging with this platform doesn’t mean we’ve entered into a psychologist–client relationship. Our goal is to help parents learn about and adopt more science-backed parenting techniques, especially with regards to mental health. The goal is not to replace care from a psychologist or other medical professional.

You and your doctors know your kid better than we ever could! If you have any concerns about your child, we strongly recommend talking to your pediatrician, or finding a therapist who can help. All therapy is not created equal. Here are resources for finding of science-backed treatments — shown to be effective for many children — and therapists who can deliver them.
