Sadness and Depression
All of our skills and tools for dealing with sadness, low mood, anhedonia, and depression.
Everyone experiences sadness sometimes — it’s a normal part of being human! On a day-to-day basis, young kids often experience sadness when they can’t have something they want or when they have to stop an activity they enjoy. But sometimes kids feel down or have no mood for seemingly no reason at all. Or they just feel “meh” — like nothing sounds fun — a symptom of depression called “anhedonia” that often goes along with low mood.
Knowing how to support kids through moments of sadness or feeling “meh” can help keep these feelings from taking on a life of their own. We’ve gathered Minds in Bloom resources on sadness, anhedonia, and depression to help parents and caregivers nurture kids’ well-being.
